Ege Gures

About me

I am Ege Gures, a fourth year UBC student majoring in Mathematics, intending to graduate in January 2026. I am specializing in mathematical computing, specifically in machine learning, optimization and operations research. My first interest in computers and programming started back when I was in middle school, where I started learning C# in a programming club. After that, I've kept learning and joined a FLL club in high school, where we designed and programmed an autonomous robot. I've also competed in Robotex, where we had to program an autonomous drone that could navigate through obstacles.

Currently, outside of school, I am working on a basic home server running Proxmox, which consists of multiple virtual machines running on a desktop. I am running Truenas with two pools, acting as a NAS. I am also running services like Pi-hole and PiVPN on another virtual machine to block ads and have a secure remote connection to my home network, enabling me to access the files in my storage pools remotely. I also have a Windows VM for basic tasks and a Linux VM for running local llm's and machine learning tasks. Beyond these, I have a deep interest in server infrastructure, network management and cloud computing, and I always aim to learn more about them on my own time.
